REMOVE MUSIC · KEEP THE SCENE

Remove music but keep sound effects and ambience.

QUICK ANSWER

What this workflow actually does.

To remove music without turning a finished scene into voice-only audio, separate the soundtrack into a music estimate and a residual track. Keep the residual track, which is designed to retain speech, ambience and effects, then compare it with the original at the same moment. Because percussion, impacts and tonal effects can overlap music, the preview—not the label on the tool—should decide whether the result is usable.

01

Preserve more than speech

Dialogue & sound effects aims to retain footsteps, doors, crowds and room tone. Overlapping music can still cause losses; check each sound the scene depends on.

02

Keep the scene sounds

Choose Dialogue & sound effects to retain non-music sounds where possible. Dialogue only intentionally reduces ambience and effects too.

03

Judge the real mix

Dense mixes can confuse any separator. Compare your original and processed free preview of up to 15 seconds before buying full-file processing.

Once the preview keeps the effects you need, you can add new music after checking the effects. Listen to the separated audio first; a new track can hide residue without fixing missing sounds.

USE IT WHEN

The edit is finished, but the soundtrack is not.

The browser keeps the original MP4 local, extracts only its audio, and lets you compare up to 15 seconds free before choosing a one-time purchase.

  • Evaluate a cleaned base before adding authorized replacement music
  • Prepare a clean base for localization or dubbing
  • Recover old edits when the stems are missing
  • Keep environmental sound in interviews and documentary clips

A SAFER WORKFLOW

Test the difficult moment before processing the full file.

  1. 01

    Choose the strongest source

Start with the original camera or editor export rather than a social-media download. Repeated compression can smear transients and make effects harder to distinguish from music.

  2. 02

    Preview the busiest passage

Include speech, an important effect and the loudest music overlap. A quiet intro can sound perfect while the action section loses impacts or ambience.

  3. 03

    Compare what remains

Match the listening level and check dialogue, footsteps, doors, crowd sound, weather and room tone. If wanted sounds disappear, return to the original or production stems; the current choices are Dialogue & sound effects and Dialogue only.

  4. 04

    Process only after approval

If the difficult preview keeps the sounds the scene needs, choose Single File for an eligible short file or a minute pack. Listen through the final result before publishing.

ILLUSTRATIVE BEFORE / AFTER

Effects beneath a generated score

Compare the generated impacts and room-noise texture before and after music reduction. Listen to the impact tails, not only the quieter score.

Project-owned synthetic test material. Project-generated score, noise and impact sounds; no speech or customer recording. This 15-second example is not a customer testimonial or a promise about your file.

Sample limit: Quiet ambience and transient texture can change or disappear. This procedural test does not validate natural footsteps, applause, crowds or every important effect. Match the apparent voice level when comparing; this is not a normalized loudness benchmark.

LISTENING DECISION

How to judge the preview.

A successful result is not simply the version with the least music. It is the version that removes enough music while preserving the events that tell the scene's story.

What you hearWhat it meansWhat to do
Dialogue is clear and impacts remainThe residual track is separating this mix usefully.Continue with the full file and check every transition.
Music is faint but the scene feels naturalSome music may be masking small separation artifacts.Accept a useful result with light residue rather than repeatedly processing it; return to the original if essential sound is lost.
Footsteps, hits or applause disappearThose effects overlap the music estimate.Use a lighter result or restore that region from the original.
Ambience pumps around speechThe separator is changing its estimate over time.Do not run a second aggressive pass; repair only the affected section.

PREVIEW CHECKLIST

Use a revealing 15-second excerpt.

  • Include the loudest music under speech.
  • Include at least one effect that must survive.
  • Listen on headphones and ordinary speakers.
  • Compare at a similar dialogue loudness.
  • Check the beginning and end of transitions.

IMPORTANT LIMITS

Know when to stop.

  • Explosions, cymbals and tonal effects may resemble music.
  • Singing can be assigned partly to speech and partly to music.
  • A mastered stereo mix cannot always be unfolded into original stems.
  • Music removal does not grant permission to reuse the source footage.

EVIDENCE AND LIMITS

Why the preview matters.

Published research describes real-world soundtrack separation as a three-stem problem involving speech, music and sound effects. It also reports that separation can introduce artifacts and that remixing some estimated interference can improve downstream results. Those findings do not predict the quality of any individual upload. Choose Dialogue & sound effects to retain scene sounds, or Dialogue only to focus on people speaking; compare your own preview before paying.

QUESTIONS FOR THIS WORKFLOW

Before you process the full file.

Can I choose monthly or yearly subscriptions?

Creator adds 30 minutes per service month for $19.99/month or $199 billed annually (equivalent to $16.58/month). Pro adds 60 minutes per service month for $29.99/month or $299 billed annually (equivalent to $24.92/month). Studio adds 120 minutes per service month for $54.99/month or $549 billed annually (equivalent to $45.75/month). Yearly billing saves at least two monthly payments compared with 12 monthly payments; it does not add extra months or grant all minutes upfront. Unused subscription minutes expire monthly. Cancel renewal; already-paid service continues through the paid term. One-time packs remain separate. Compare all plans and billing rules on the Pricing page.

Which one-time option fits my file?

After a successful preview, eligible files up to 120 seconds can use Single File for $4.99 USD through Stripe. It covers one full processing result for the verified file, not a transferable minute balance. For longer files or multiple clips, Quick Fix includes 10 minutes for $8.99 USD and Creator Pack includes 50 minutes for $34.99 USD. These are one-time purchases, not subscriptions; the tool confirms eligibility before checkout.

How do the free preview and paid validity work?

Free previews cover no more than half your file: up to 15 seconds for audio and video. Free previews are subject to daily personal and site-budget limits. Unused purchases remain valid for 12 months without renewal. New minute packs have a 30-second minimum per full-file job; longer files are rounded up to the next whole second, not to 30-second blocks. Existing packs keep their original policy. A preview is not the full export.

What if processing or local video export fails?

Confirmed technical processing failures restore the reserved entitlement without extending its original expiry. If Single File audio processing succeeds but local video assembly fails, retry assembly with the same original file and existing audio result within its 24-hour availability window, without another AI job. The original video cannot automatically follow you to another device. Completely unused purchases may be refunded within seven calendar days; quality varies, so judge the preview before buying. See the Terms for the full rules.

Why did voice isolation remove my sound effects?

A speech-focused target can suppress non-speech sounds intentionally. Start with Dialogue & sound effects when scene sound matters, then check each important event against the original. Changing the target does not guarantee recovery of every effect.

How do I test whether an effect survived?

Choose a section containing the effect under music, compare the same moment at a similar speech level, then check the event onset, tail and background ambience. The free section is up to 15 seconds and no more than half the source file. Check the whole result after full processing.

Will every sound effect stay?

No separator can guarantee that for every finished mix. Effects that resemble instruments or occur at the same time as music are the hardest. Preview an effects-heavy passage before using minutes.

Which mode should I use to keep sound effects?

Choose Dialogue & sound effects. Dialogue only is intended to isolate people speaking and may remove effects you want to keep. Preview the important moment first; neither mode guarantees perfect separation.

Does the MP4 upload?

No. The browser extracts and uploads audio only. The original video remains on your device and is paired with the processed audio locally.

Can I use the result to replace copyrighted music?

The tool changes audio but does not clear rights. You still need permission for the video, dialogue, effects and any replacement track you publish.

Want to remove a voice instead of the music? Try the video vocal remover. Choose singing or dialogue, then compare a preview; other voices and sounds can also be affected.

YOUR FILE IS THE TEST

Hear what the model keeps before you pay.

Results vary when voice, music and effects overlap. Start with the preview and compare the same moment. Continue with Single File for an eligible short file, or use minutes from a pack or subscription, only if the result works for your source.
